PLDC is organised by VIA-Verlag, publisher of the Professional Lighting Design magazine. Professional lighting associations and universities with lighting design programmes from around the world will be invited to partner the event. This high-quality network guarantees to spread the word further and to reach newcomers and professionals from related fields of practice. This biannual Convention was created for the global lighting design market. Designers, lighting architects, researchers, universities, industry and clients use PLDC as a platform to meet, learn about the latest developments in lighting design, and discuss the future of the lighting profession. PLDC stands for high quality knowledge transfer and international networking opportunities.
The final programme was compiled by the Steering Committee based on the peer reviews. The result is 71 fascinating papers and interactive sessions to be presented by professionals from around the world.
The Keynote Speakers for PLDC 2013 have been invited from the world of architecture and film, and promise to inspire discussion. Sahel Al Hiyari from Sahel Al Hiyari Architects/JOR, James Carpenter from James Carpenter Design Associates/USA, concept artist Mischa Kuball/D, and Alessandro Gobbetti/I, Lighting Effects Assistant Technical Director on the film production Avatar, to name but a few.
The supporting programme is equally impressive! The PLDC organisers are planning a series of excursions to some aweinspiring projects in and around Copenhagen led by the respective designers or clients. These include the Royal Playhouse and the new Blue Planet Aquarium designed by Jesper Kongshaug, as well as the Deloitte Building and Frederiksberg Courthouse, Industriens Hus in the centre of Copenhagen and three unique and innovatively designed projects in Malmö by Black Ljusdesign, Lichtlabor Bartenbach and Christian Partos/Johan Moritz.
The pre-convention meetings planned for the Wednesday before the conference include: a CIE workshop on International Standardisation with professional lighting designers, and meetings for International Educators and Early Career Researchers to discuss strategies to raise the quality of lighting design and research programmes, and support CPD and programmes for qualified lighting designers.
