If you're looking to become a regular advocate for dark skies, consider forming a chapter in your area. Chapters are an integral part of our organization's success. These groups are staffed by volunteers all over the globe and act as a base for IDA in their regions. An IDA chapter can organize events, educate and network with municipalities, schools and other organizations. You do not have to have specialized experience, such as be a professional astronomer or an engineer, to lead an IDA Chapter. The only qualification is a passion to advocate for keeping the night skies natural. |

How to become a Chapter If you are interested in forming a Chapter, please read the Chapter Handbook or click on the Frequently Asked Questions page.Chapters act as autonomous advocates for IDA and specialize in local action. Advantages of Chapters is the close network of expertise and assistance IDA headquarters provides. Chapters agree adhere to IDA’s philosophies and bylaws. In addition, they are required to submit annual reports to IDA and are bound to uphold the rules of Section 501(c)(3) of the United States Internal Revenue Code of 1987. Affiliates In addition, IDA has Affiliates in numerous regions. If you can not find a Chapter in your region, try contacting an Affiliate. Affiliates are similar in scope to Chapters; however, they have either become individual tax-exempt organizations or work under their individual country's charitable code.
