IDA Bids Farewell to former IDA Executive Director Bob Parks

Having served us ably for more than four years, former IDA Executive Director Bob Parks has left to pursue his passion for night sky conservation in new ways.

Before coming to IDA, Bob founded the Virginia Outdoor Lighting Taskforce, an all-volunteer, non-profit, grassroots advocacy group that has been working for safe and efficient outdoor lighting since 2000. In 2009, Bob joined the IDA staff to open the Washington Office for Public Policy and Government Affairs and soon thereafter was appointed Executive Director – in 2010.

During Bob’s tenure as Executive Director, he steered IDA through the challenging U.S. financial crisis and strove to realize his vision for the organization and the preservation of night skies. The IDA Board and Staff wish him well as he pursues new and exciting endeavors.

A Search Committee has been formed and is hard at work finding our next Executive Director. During this transition, Managing Director Scott Kardel is serving as our Acting Executive Director. The Board is fully confident that Scott and the entire Tucson office staff will continue to effectively devote their talents and passion toward fulfilling the IDA mission.

This is an exciting and vital time for IDA. Day by day, public awareness about light pollution steadily grows and IDA is perfectly positioned to move this issue from public awareness to full-scale public action. Changing how the world thinks about light at night is a critical mission, but we can’t do it without your help. As we look ahead, we are open to new ideas and approaches to accomplishing our mission.
