IDA Privacy Policy

The International Dark-Sky Association recognizes the trust you have placed in us by providing your personal information. Whether you are a member, donor, volunteer, an organization, or an individual seeking the latest information on light pollution, we are committed to conducting business honestly and protecting your privacy.

IDA ensures that your personal information is held in strict confidence. We use your information only for intended business purposes. IDA does not provide, sell, or rent home or business addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, or financial information to anyone outside the organization.

We keep accurate records

We keep your personal information as accurate, complete, and up to date as is required to fulfill the purpose(s) for which you originally provided us your information. On request (written, email, phone call???) we will remove your personal information from our database, except where legislation or regulation requires its retention (for example, charitable giving history tied to income tax receipts). If you would like us to change your information email [email protected] or call 520-293-3198.

Credit card payments

All of our credit card transactions are processed through BluePay, an electronic payment system. BluePay complies with PCI DSS standards, meaning that it maintains the highest standards of payment security to keep information safe. BluePay uses advanced security solutions, including point-to-point encryption (P2PE) and tokenization that are designed to protect sensitive data for increased customer confidence and reduced risk of credit card fraud.

Online memberships and donations

Visitors to the IDA website have an opportunity to establish unique identifier information (e.g., user name and password) to donate, become members, renew memberships, and track transaction information (e.g., dates on which memberships were made, amounts and types of donations) and update profile information (e.g., name, address, phone number) that we maintain.

IDA uses NeonCRM, a web-based fundraising and membership system, which works with Rackspace, a data hosting company, to ensure the security of your data. NeonCRM maintains PCI compliancy through ControlScan, and its system undergoes a quarterly scan to verify that its servers are secure and PCI compliant. When you make payments online, IDA does not gain access to your credit card number.

Email privacy

If you choose to send us email, we may retain the contents of your email message, our reply, and your email address as part of our ongoing customer service efforts. We reserve the right to contact you after you have contacted us and may send future email and/or surveys to you about IDA. You may notify us via email if you wish to discontinue electronic communication.

IDA members and donors who create an online account and individuals who sign up to receive IDA e-communications are voluntarily providing us with contact information (such as name and e-mail address). We may use this information for specific, limited purposes. You can “opt out” at anytime if you do not wish to receive our messages.
