IDA’s 30th Annual General Meeting
November 9-11, 2018 | Snowbird, Utah

The International Dark-Sky Association is pleased to invite you to the 30th Annual General Meeting which will be held at Snowbird Retreat in Utah, Nov. 9-11, 2018.

The Annual General Meeting will be a celebration of the International Dark-Sky Association’s 30th anniversary and the community of scientists, engineers, conservationists, policy-makers, advocates, and others who work together to preserve and protect the natural nighttime environment and our heritage of night skies.

We aim to empower people in their work to preserve and protect the natural nighttime environment. The IDA Annual General Meeting is an opportunity to strengthen the organization and the community of dark sky advocates by sharing the stories of our combined successes, learning from one another and motivating and inspiring leadership for success, and sharing ideas that will strengthen our community.

The topics for this year’s IDA Annual General Meeting are:

The economic benefits of dark skies

The many ways that businesses, municipalities, and individuals benefit economically from dark skies.

The science of dark skies

Evidence-based research and/or studies related to night skies, light pollution, and/or nighttime conservation.

Advocating for dark skies

Stories and tactics that demonstrate success in increasing public awareness around light pollution and the need for nighttime conservation.

Policies for dark skies

Supporting, writing, and achieving public policies that protect and defend our natural nighttime environment.

Technology for dark skies

Technologies used to preserve dark skies.

Inspiration from dark skies

Stories that inspire the dark sky community to continue to stand up for the natural nighttime environment.

Participants include IDA members and supporters, Chapter leaders, Delegates, and others who want to:

  • meet and network with other people who are passionate about protecting the night,
  • support the mission and programs of the International Dark-Sky Association,
  • learn about tools to protect the natural nighttime environment, and
  • become inspired to fight for the night.

IDA invites you to submit an abstract to present at the 2018 Annual General Meeting. Presentations may be in the form of a poster presentation, lecture presentation, or interactive workshop. Accepted abstract presenters will be offered registration at 50% of the regular cost ($75 before October 9, 2018).
