The Night Sky Has No Border

An Intercontinental Partnership

We are delighted to announce that the 14th European Symposium for the Protection of the Night Sky, taking place in County Mayo, Ireland 3-5th November, will be a sister event to The International Dark-Sky Association’s 2019 Annual General Meeting & Conference taking place in Tuscon, Arizona 8-9th November.  

This intercontinental collaboration highlights common challenges faced across the globe in our fight to Protect the Night Sky from light pollution. We will be celebrating our largest habitat – the natural night sky – on opposite sides of the planet. The time zones between us will serve as a reminder of the natural cycle of day and night as this small planet revolves.  

Attendees will gather at both events to examine best practices for night sky protection, and share in their enthusiasm for the night sky. By collaborating on the events, we can exchange ideas and outcomes with our international colleagues and strengthen our movement to protect the night sky.  

Inclusiveness Bursary

To help promote broad European participation in the European Symposium event, a bursary is being offered up to €400 to an IDA member or representative of a national light pollution organization who lives in one of the target countries designated in the COST inclusiveness list. The awardee is expected to make a presentation during the meeting. To apply, please complete a short statement (maximum 300 words) with a case for support and how you will benefit from attending the symposium. Applications should be sent to [email protected] on or before 16th August.
